Welcome to the historic home ranch of Black Elk Outfitters.
Indian Creek Ranch, located 28 miles southwest of Walden is the home base of Black Elk Outfitters and has been offering hunts for over 40 years. The ranch is 2,300 acres, straddles the Continental Divide with an elevation of roughly 9,000 feet. This ranch is comprised of dark timber, steep slopes, aspen parks, and open bowls. Sit on the continental divide and glass for miles looking for herds of elk as they move on and off the National Forest or bordering ranches. This ranch offers some of the best vistas in North Park.
Early in the season and during the rut it is not uncommon to see large herds of elk moving on and off the ranch.
Indian Creek holds most of the water in the area and the best browse for elk. During 2nd rifle in 2020 we had a heavy snow and 200 elk flooded the ranch. We only take a limited number of hunters each season at Indian Creek, we are working to keep this a pristine hunting experience and reduce pressure on the elk herds. You can expect to see cattle while hunting, this is a working cattle ranch.
At Indian Creek we have a great camp spot, RVs and trailers are welcome along with wall or dome tents. We have full power hook ups here for your convenience. No water is available at this ranch so you must bring your own. You can fill up as needed in Walden.
ATV’s and UTV’s may be used for travel from camp to the parking areas. They are not allowed beyond the parking areas except to pick up downed game, the only exception to this rule is for staff. Maps are supplied upon arrival. Please keep UTV/ATVs on designated roads.
There are usually two staff members available at all times on the ranch, they are not guiding, but are there to help get you introduced to the ranch, orientation and to help haul out your harvest. While it is their job to help haul it out you are expected to help as well, they will only go as far as they can in and ATV/UTV, if animals are harvested in a rough area you may need to pack/drag it to where they can get it. This is rare, and most animals can be reached by machine, just something to keep in mind before you pull the trigger. We cannot assist clients in anyway off the ranch, we can only help on our private land.
Indian Creek is located in game units 17 and 181. Consult with us on best tags to get. Almost all tags are over the counter with limited draws available and lots of leftover tags. Hunters with Unit 17 tags may also have access to the Trownsell Ranch as well. There is no mule deer hunting currently on Indian Creek as we develop stronger trophy deer.
